The Best Books Every Christian Woman Should Read

Ever since I can remember, I have loved reading!

Books have been apart of my life in every way imaginable. However, one of the most important roles books has played in my life is helping me grow in my Christian faith.

Don’t get me wrong. Reading my Bible is still the best way to grow in my faith but beyond that there were so many books that helped bring the Truth found in God’s Word come alive for me in fascinating ways.

If you are a Christian woman looking to grow in your Christian faith, please check out these books!

Christian Biographies

Biographies have opened up whole new worlds and histories that I never knew about. Plus, reading about people who were ordinary Christians that did extraordinary things for God leaves me fired up in my faith!

The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom

Far and away the best biography I have ever read. Corrie ten Boom’s story of helping thousands of Jews escape the Holocaust plus her own time in the concentration camps is a jarringly beautiful view of Christ’s love in action.

A Chance to Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael by Elisabeth Elliot

If you have ever wondered why God might not answer prayers the way you expect, this biography will give you glimpses of how He has a perfect plan for every single person’s life!

Martin Luther by Eric Metaxas

Perhaps you have wondered about church history? Check out my book review on this amazing transition period of Christian church history!

Christian Devotionals

If you are like me and love to find a devotional to supplement your daily Bible reading then here is the best recommendation I can give you.

My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers

Personally, I have walked through this devotional three different times in my life already and each time I come away with a renewed walk with God. This is not a “feel-good” devotional. Rather you will find solid Biblical counsel given to you in daily doses to make it manageable.

Christian Bible Studies

Sometimes, we hit seasons of life where we need help digging into God’s Word. These Bible studies are the perfect options for those times!

The Armor of God by Priscilla Shirer

Last year, the Bible study group I am a part of decided to go through the Armor of God study. Wow! As we studied this important section of Scripture, I found my prayer life growing in ways I never imagined!

True Spirituality by Chip Ingrim

One of my favorite passage of Scriptures happens to be Romans 12. As I have gone through this study more than one time now, I can safely say, it continues to help me glean more insight into this beautiful section of the Bible.

Seamless by Angie Smith

Far and away this Bible study is still one the favorites in our Bible study group. I will warn that you really need to have the DVD and the book to get everything possible out of this series. Consider it an investment in understanding your Bible in radical new ways!

Personally, I have seen girls who have hardly ever opened a Bible and girls who grew up memorizing Scripture both come away from this study absolutely blown away by the beauty and continuity of God’s Word!

Lies Women Believe by Nancy DeMoss Woldgemoth

Satan loves to help women be blinded by lies. It holds us back from all that God would have for us to know and be. In this book, you will be able to expose lies in your life so you can restore God’s Truth in your heart.

Christian Womanhood

A Woman After God’s Own Heart®

Grab this book to help you get a practical, well rounded Christian mentoring book from Elizabeth George. She will walk you through what being a woman of God looks like in a very practical sense. This is a great book for a newer Christian as well as a resource for “seasoned” Christian women.

Girls Gone Wise in a World Gone Wild by Mary Kassian

Okay, I LOVE this book!! Mary Kassian doesn’t pull any punches. She takes you on a direct walk through Scripture comparing what wise women and what foolish women do. At times, it will hurt because she will step on your toes but you won’t finish this book without a new grasp on what wise living looks like!

Christian Prayer

Wrestling Prayer

This is still one the best books I have found to encourage my prayer walk. However, I will warn you. My husband can’t stand their writing style. That being said, I personally have found it foundational to making prayer a part of my life in practical ways.

Christian Bible Study

More than anything else, Christian women should want to learn about God through His Word. These next two books will help you become a capable student of the Word of God.

His Word Alone by Summer Lacy

In this gorgeous second edition book, Summer Lacy shares her heart for the importance of actually studying your Bible, rather than just reading books about the Bible. You will put down this book and want to pick up your Bible!

Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin

Very much like the one above, I find this book wonderful at providing the tools necessary to take a step by step approach to studying the Bible. While it might not be the most exciting read, it is quick and will give you confidence to study the Bible for yourself.

Christian Apologetics

As Christian women, it is important to know why we believe what we believe. Satan uses several tactics in this world to trick us into wondering if our Christian faith can stand up to the scrutiny of a skeptical world. You will find that the following books will help you gain the confidence to share your faith with boldness.

Also, if you are looking for more books about this, I highly suggest you head over to Six Books That Will Train You How To Defend Your Faith!

The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel

Written by a former atheist, The Case for Christ will give you an easy-to-understand overall view of why the Christian faith is credible.

Love Your God with All Your Mind

If you have ever felt like you need to check you brain at the door in order to live out your Christian faith, then this book is for you! J.P. Moreland does a phenomenal job of showing how you can be a thinking, rational person as well as a Christian (something the world often says is impossible!)

Questioning Evangelism

While many books out there will tell you to share your Christian faith, this book helps everyone (including introverts like me!) to become bolder in their witnessing. If you enjoy this book, you will also find Tactics by Gregory Koukl incredibly helpful!

More Than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell

By far, this is my favorite book to keep on hand as a gift to give to non-believers looking for answers as well as new Christians who are learning their way around their new faith. Though it is a small book, it packs a punch!

Christian Fiction

Finally, these stories share amazing truths about God as told through compelling narratives. They will definitely keep you turning the pages until you are done!

In His Steps by Charles Sheldon

One hundred years before the What Would Jesus Do? fad found its way onto all of our clothing, this book was published. While being a fictional book, the story woven through its pages challenges all Christians to walk in the steps that their Master left.

Christy by Catherine Marshall

Based loosely off of a true story, Catherine Marshall will enchant you with the story of a young school teacher learning about living out her faith in God in less than ideal situations.

Not going to lie, this is one of the few books I have re-read over 5 times which is crazy because I am just not a person who re-reads books!

Hinds Feet On High Places by Hannah Hurnard

Be transformed by the allegorical tale of Much-Afraid as she learns about the Good Shepherd who loves her!

Also, you might enjoy The Pilgrim’s Progress if you enjoy this book!

Your Turn

There are always more books out there to discover!

How many of these books have you read?
