This fall marks the beginning of a new season of life here in our home. In a few short weeks, we will be beginning to homeschool preschool with our oldest child. Honestly, I have no idea how it snuck up on me so quickly!

When did she grow up so much? Why is she asking to read letters so often? Where did my baby girl go?

Cue a few mama tears…

However, I am so excited to start this stage of life! For the past several weeks, my Pinterest boards have been filling up with so many great learning activities. Okay, and more printables than any human could ever hope to use! 🙂

Why The First-Time Homeschool Mom Needs To Surround Herself With Scripture

For me, this transition to being a first-year homeschool mom is going to be a return to my roots in many ways.

Growing up, I was homeschooled the entire 12 years. And with the exceptions of a few math classes that stretched my mom and I to some sanity-lacking moments, I can truthfully say that being homeschooled was beyond amazing. It suited my learning style well. Plus, I had so many extra learning opportunities due to the flexible nature of the homeschool life that I can say have left me so much more enriched than any traditional school experience would have allowed.

However, as my husband and I make this decision to begin homeschooling our own kids, I can safely say that there are some nerves. Having been homeschooled, I saw first-hand the burn out and exhaustion that homeschool moms face.

Along with the burn out comes the joys of getting questioned about your parenting decisions. You get crazy, weird, and very personal questions asked you by your family as well as by complete strangers.

Finally, as a Christian mom, I know you will feel the spiritual attack that comes from taking such a strong stance for your kid’s faith and education. These attacks will come in so many forms from despair and doubt to tiredness and overwhelm.

Christian homeschool moms will often get so overwhelmed that they will feel they have lost their connection to God.

Knowing all this from watching my mom go through it and hearing it discussed at homeschool support conferences has me nervous. While I don’t know what exact battles will arise in my own first-year of homeschooling, I do know that these attacks, especially spiritual, are extremely likely.

Because of this, I have decided to find some Bible verses to claim throughout this year. Since I know that there will be these times of weakness, I find it encouraging to discover the Truth that God gives me to counterattack against those times of struggles.

Bible Verses For The First-Time Homeschool Mom

Ready? Okay, here we go!

Bible Verses About Fear

Fear is a liar. It will cause us to second guess so many decisions we need to make as homeschool moms. Fear can cause us to hold back when we need to be taking some big step forward. It can make God seem small when He is in total control.

Let’s give our fears to God and instead put our focus on the Lover of our Soul.

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. –John 14:27

In God, whose word I praise,
    in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.
    What can flesh do to me?- Psalm 56:4

The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. –Philippians 4:5-7

Bible Verses About Discouragement

Lesson plans that look beautiful on paper don’t happen at all. Character training moments slip us by because we are distracted. If our kid seems to be slow to grasp something that should be easy, we will become discouraged in our teaching abilities.

Discouragement can rear its ugly head often throughout the daily grind. Let’s battle those times of discouragement with some Truth.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
    Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
    I will hold you up with My victorious right hand. –Isaiah 41:10

 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.-Philippians 4:13

Bible Verses About Exhaustion

Parenting is exhausting. Even on good days, kids will leave you feeling tired at times. Add in all-day long interactions with them while wearing the parent and the teacher hat and you have a recipe for some times of exhaustion. Whether it is a physical, emotional, or spiritual exhaustion or a bit of all three, these verses can help you face the weariness.

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him. –Psalm 37:7

Be still, and know that I am God. –Psalm 46:10

Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. –Matthew 11:28

Bible Verses About Endurance

Homeschooling and marathons are both long-distance activities. They require endurance over a great amount of time. When the days come that make you want to just give up rather than keep on fighting the good fight, let these verses help you find God’s strength to endure with grace and love.

Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
    all you who wait for the Lord! –Psalm 31:24

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. –Galatians 6:9

They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
    they shall walk and not faint. –Isaiah 40:31

Bible Verses About Learning

As a homeschool parent, we get to train our kids how to love learning. Our kids will see how we appreciate and enjoy the act of discovering and exploring. Let’s use these Bible verses to spring-board our excitement for learning so we can pass that along to them!

Let the wise hear and increase in learning,
    and the one who understands obtain guidance. –Proverbs 1:5

I remember the days of old;
    I meditate on all that You have done;
    I ponder the work of your hands.
I stretch out my hands to You;
    my soul thirsts for You like a parched land. –Psalm 143:5-6

Call to Me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. –Jeremiah 33:3

Bible Verses About Humility

Mistakes will happen. Perhaps your kids will enjoy and even breeze through the one school topic you could never stand!

Often they will see you mess up or fall flat on your face as you figure out this whole homeschooling process.

When this happens, let’s use these verses to help us model a humble heart and teachable spirit to our kids.

For the Lord takes delight in His people;
    He crowns the humble with victory. –Psalm 149:4

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. –1 Peter 5:6-7

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. –Ephesians 4:2

Bible Verses About Kindness

There will be many scenarios throughout your days that will need extra measures of calm words and kind responses.

Perhaps it will be towards your kids as they struggle. Maybe you will need to express extra kindness towards your spouse when you would rather vent about your rough day. Or perhaps you will experience a jabbing comment about your decision to homeschool that will require a kind and peace-filled response.

Let these verses remind you to respond with words that show the sweetness of Christ and His great love.

A word fitly spoken
is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. –Proverbs 25:11

A soft answer turns away wrath,
    but a harsh word stirs up anger. –Proverbs 15:1

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. –Ephesians 4:32

Bible Verses About Training Children

Finally, on the days when you forget why you are homeschooling at all, check out these verses about training your children.

Let them renew your vision for what God has called you to be as a Christian homeschool mom in this season of life.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. –Deuteronomy 6:5-8

Train up a child in the way he should go;
    even when he is old he will not depart from it. –Proverbs 22:6

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. –Ephesians 6:4

Another Resource To Consider

Recently I discovered the Homeschool Mom’s Bible while searching for some other Christian homeschool related items. Currently, it is sitting in my Amazon cart waiting for the next time my budget allows for a little splurging. 🙂

However, I wanted to mention the Homeschool Mom’s Bible because from several reviews I have found online from homeschool moms, they are enjoying this Bible with tailor-made daily devotionals just for them. Personally, it sounds like the spiritual toolkit I would love to have around as I begin this homeschool year. I will give you an update once I purchase it myself!
