Sometimes we Christians will make statements that almost sound holy when we know they are not.

Often, we want to excuse our less than holy and set apart behaviors with earthly excuses. Trust me, I get how easy it is! On any given day, I find myself rationalizing many things that are not healthy or wholesome to my relationship with God.

But there is one in particular that I find we as Christian women will say more often than many others.

I am too busy to read the Bible.

If you are like me and have found this statement coming out of your mouth frequently, then read on!

Are We Really Too Busy To Read The Bible?

Are we truly that busy?

Most likely, we are not.

Of course, there might be short seasons of utter chaos where our entire lives and schedules are up heaved to the point where survival is all that can be concerned with for a few days. But those sort of days tend to only happen rarely in life. Thank the Lord!

If most Christian women were pressed, they would admit that they could probably make time to read their Bibles each day, even if just for a few minutes. However, most will never actually take the time necessary to make studying their Bible a priority. Why is that?

Often, we are preoccupied with other things that seem more pressing in the moment. It is easy to let Bible study slid down our to-do list because Bible study doesn’t come with deadlines like so many other activities in our life.

What We Should Say Instead Of “I’m Too Busy To Study The Bible.”

In the future, I propose that we make this statement instead: “I have other priorities that are higher than reading my Bible.”

Ouch.

When we re-frame our mindset to understand that our lack of time to read our Bibles is actually a priority problem not a time problem, we can actually take steps towards fixing the heart issue behind our statement.

How To Fix Priority Problems Related To Your Bible Study

What can be done about this priority problem when it comes to our Bible study efforts?

Admit To God That Your Have A Heart Issue, Not A Time Issue

Humble yourself before God and pray that He will help you to get your priorities straightened out.

Before we go a step further, let’s turn to God in prayer. Take time to truly repent for all the times when our priorities have been out of whack.  After praying for His forgiveness, invite the Holy Spirit to make you sensitive to what priorities in your life need to be changed so that your time of Bible study can be put back in its rightful place.

Schedule Your Top Priorities Into Your Day

As Christian women, we should have our relationship with God as the top priority in our life followed closely by the nurturing our marriage, children and home. If that is not currently reflected in your daily schedule, then recognize that you have a schedule problem.

Write down your schedule with your God-centered priorities first. Once those are completed, then you can move onto the rest of the items on your to-do list.

You will be amazed by how much more peace-filled your days will be when your priorities are given their proper place. And yes, you will still find time to do many of the other things that you did before. But be prepared. Some things will disappear.

At first, these areas of sacrifice will hurt. However, I promise the sacrifice is worth making. Plus, after some time has passed, you will not miss those things as you did in the beginning. In addition, you will discover that God will replace your desires with desires that are pleasing to Him.

Continue To Check Your Heart And Your Priorities

Over the course of our lives, we will discover that there are areas of our Christian walk that we have to revisit over and over again. Take time monthly or quarterly to set aside a day to do a heart and priority check up with God. As His Holy Spirit makes you aware of new areas or even old areas of concern, repent and begin again!

Growth over the long term often looks like little steps of faith that lead to a big life lived for God.
